Did I read it correctly? It seemed to me the court only decided whether the surveyor would be allowed to file a class action lawsuit rather than a lawsuit just for himself. The question of whether the government or its service provider had to compensate the surveyor for making copies seemed to be left for a later trial.

Yes, suing the 'government' is like ...............

It is a matter of reading the Copyright Act in your jurisdiction, the case law and applying the sixth sense.

Some are not right up to date on the concept of intellectual property.

Effectively, if you create some artistic work, such as a plan (that is unique in its own right) it, and the reproduction thereof, unless contractually otherwise, is solely yours to deal with as you wish in the free market.

While it is Oz law this may be of interest:

http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/cases/cth/HCA/2008/35.html

It took further time but I understand that there are royalties being paid now in Oz.

Cheers,

Derek
