Hello,

Those small lithium-ion batteries powering survey equipment such as the ones found on the R8's, 1200, etc; are they considered dangerous goods in regards of shipping for commercial purposes (surveying) on an aircraft?

If those types of batteries are not considered dangerous goods, where could a person find the official support documentation.

Thanks,

Georges

They are considered a hazardous material by the DOT under UN3090 or UN3091.
Lithium_ion batteries are a class 9 hazardous material and regulated under DOT CFR49.
They can only be shipped, air freight, by cargo aircraft. Your cross-sectional area or volume will mandate how they must be packaged. You could probably get the specs from your dealer, or manufacturer. FedEx and UPS are registered HAZMAT shippers and can label and ship the cargo accordingly. Just let them know what you are shipping, they will do the rest.

As of May 16, any lithium-based battery -- even cell phone batteries -- are prohibited in international mail to or from the U.S.
