4G is nothing more than the fourth generation data... And it is not the same at each provider, not apples to apples.
It may be somewhat faster, but it has to do with a number of factors. I have an iPhone 4 and it is just as fast as my friends 4g thunderbolt.... If not faster. There are 200 million of android phones sold in a very short time, and most people get them for free/cheap when they replace their old phone. Every one has a GPS, compass, and camera in them, and some very good free mapping apps.
