My Son has offered to make a custom staff for my compass collection. I would like to send him a vintage foot for it and prefer not to tear apart a good staff.?ÿ I am fine with something that needs refinished but prefer it be servicable. It will be used in the woods.

Anyone have one they would consider parting with?

I don't have a Jacob's Staff but I'm looking for one to support a staff compass.

What kind of wood is he using?

@david-kendall The bottom will be hedge and the top will be walnut. There will be a custom finger joint in the middle.

I may be a tad prejudice in his fsvor but his woodwork is awesome.

A finger joint is going to be a weak spot.  Compass staffs (staves?) take a lot of pressure at times.  Just sayin'...

WRT the foot, vintage would be nice, but if you give up on that it's pretty easy to thread the bottom of the staff (properly tapered, of course) and screw in a standard prism pole point.

@jim-frame The type of joint he is using is the same as a footed arrow. It should be fine if I don't try prying up rocks with it. I may just have him turn and tap a reproduction foot. i used to see them on fleabay from time to time but it's been awhile...
