I dunno, it's what the guy told me when I was picking up one of the company robots (S7) after a tune up several months ago. This robot was, I think, 4 or 6 years old at the time and he said it was showing signs of this laser degradation. I told him this robot wasn't used very often and he said it didn't matter the degradation happens no matter what. When I asked for more info he said the laser can't be repaired or replaced so you'll only get so many years out of the instrument.

I'm just relaying what I was told, but maybe there's an instrument expert lurking around here that can better explain.

Saw an S6 come in for service in ~2017 that had been bought when they first came out in 2006, and never brought in for service...tech said it barely needed any adjustment. Sent it back all cleaned up and it was still going strong as of 2022.

I will have to ask my tech. Would not shock me at all.

True. That’s the problem with a lot of today’s technology. It is designed to not be repaired. It’s not that they cannot reuthe laser. It actually has more to do with the cost to dispose of it in a hazmat way. That liability gets expensive. If it breaks and you the owner chunk it in a dumpster or hang it from a fence post is one thing. But a big company like the manufacturers. Now they can get money from them. We be to poor to squeeze that Money from. Working for the government taught me how much money goes into various hazmat things. Take that $10 can of wd/40 it cost way more to make sure it is contained stored in a certain way. When it’s empty the price goes up even more as it can supposedly only be disposed of in a certain way. I was blown away at so many rules for every single thing.

I am open to selling separately.. Let me know.

Do you still have this for sale?

Still available.

Hello! I am actively looking for a good used robot/scanner to purchase, and this fits the bill. I recently started a surveying business and would love to check this equipment out.
