I always lived within walking distance to a public pool. My parents bought the season pass; I would show up before they opened, go home for dinner, come back until they kicked me out.

It haden't been invented yet, so no. Back then all the rich women used "Coppertone" and the rest used cocoa butter and baby oil and the men didn't use anything. ????
As far as pools are concerned always take a large "Baby Ruth" candy bar with you in case it's too crowded.
Remember the Coppertone ads showing a little kid getting her swimsuit tugged by a cut little dog thus showing the difference between hidden skin and Coppertone skin.
