Found a nice mount for smartphone as data collector

Just figured I'd share. I like light and fast. No heavy tablet and I don't want a windows CE data collector. I found my phone works well with a Tackform motorcycle mount for $60, very well made. Surveying data collectors are dinosaurs.

I don't see a link.

I'm guessing this is it.

Motorcycle Phone Mounts

Yes, this is it:

Black Motorcycle Phone Mount | BC3 Universal Clamp for 7/8" to 1-1/4" Handlebars | Short Reach

That's great to know as it follows on from another thread about Android phones as data collectors.

Curious what phone you are using and how you deal with rain on the screen? Cover, phone has rain mode etc.

A picture of the setup would be awesome too if you can?

Thanks

I have one on my motorcycle. They're very sturdy and hold a phone very well, even when being broadsided by a car.

Ouch! Hope you made out ok Greg.

This is the setup. Weighs just under 6#'s. Had to use my phone to take the photo. The case contains a 4000mAh battery.

@mark-o I made it out fine minus some PTSD but the bike was totaled.

How do you like that S900? I just got a pair of BRx7's and am amazed. I've been doing a lot of under canopy testing based on suggestions found here and the results are great.

What kind of DC software are you running on the phone?

Thatƒ??s fine if you are collecting the same point code and not having to enter codes.  Iƒ??ll take the big very bright TSC7 screen (big map space) over a dim phone screen that youƒ??ll have to charge at lunch.
