Forum Updates for 2020-02-03: Forum notifications, jump to unread, and more
Quote from Wendell on February 4, 2020, 5:41 amWell, it's time again for some great forum updates! The first thing you should do, if on a Windows computer, is visit the main Community Forums page, then hit CTRL F5. Wait for the site to load, then hit CTRL F5 again. That should help clear your browser cache specifically for this website.
?ÿ
Forum Notifications
There are many great features that have been added pertaining to forum notifications. The first thing you might notice is a bell icon in the forum menu (next to the search icon). This is where you'll receive notifications of post replies, likes, quotes, etc. These notifications are real-time, so if you are viewing the forum when, for example, someone replies to one of your posts, you'll be instantly notified.

?ÿ
Forum Search Page
There is now a dedicated Search page for the forums. You'll find a link to it in the main navigation menu at the top of all pages, as well as the forum-specific menu.

?ÿ
Jump to Unread Post
When browsing the forums index, you'll now see a [NEW] icon at the end of the topic titles when there are new, unread replies since your last visit. You can click the icon and it will take you to the first of the unread replies. I know a lot of folks have asked for this one, so please let me know what you think about it and if you have any issues. The topic titles will continue to link to the first post in the thread, giving you the choice to start at the beginning or continue where you left off.

?ÿ
Refactored Code
Much of the forum software code has been refactored for better performance. And since we recently moved to a great new hosting platform, this place should really fly now! Keep in mind though that we have a tool in place that attempts to clear user caches upon visiting the site and it will be active for about a week. This helps reduce support requests due to styling weirdness, but it does add a bit of load time to the site.
?ÿ
Many Bugs Squashed
Just like every other forum software update, we squashed a bunch of bugs.

?ÿ
More Goodies on the Way
And if that's not enough, we'll be releasing more updates in the very near future.

Quote from Wendell on February 4, 2020, 4:45 pmPrivate Messaging, User Profiles, and some other key components were just updated for better compatibility with other software and our new server. If you've had any ongoing issues with either of these, I'd invite you to clear your browser cache (twice, use CTRL F5) from the main Community Forums index page. Then see if your issue has been resolved. If not, feel free to bring it up in a reply here so I can compile a list of remaining issues. ?????ÿ

Dang!!!! That bell thingy is the cat's meow.?ÿ At least I won't miss any notifications.?ÿ I still may miss some recent posts, though.?ÿ Tend to click on the most recent post and then work back up til I recognize a post.?ÿ The catch is that there may be other posts that were replies on earlier pages that will never be seen except to the one getting the notification or someone just finding the thread and working from page one to the end all at one time.
