Engineer/Survey Firm Hiring

For those looking for work with a company with good pay and benefits Mattern & Craig in Roanoke VA has an ad in the Roanoke newspaper for Licensed Surveyor, Party Chief, Instrument man, Rod man. The ad ran in the Sunday edition last weekend and the weekend before. They have offices in Roanoke, VA, Asheville, NC, Kingsport and Johnson City, TN. They prefer someone with Civil 3D/AutoCad experience and Microstation is good too.

Is That For Just One Person ?

I believe they are looking for someone for each position. I no longer work there so I don't know for sure - just wanted to let folks know about the newspaper ad.

Thanks for the heads up!

Small world. They are the first surveying/engineering firm I worked for.
When I was there, the company was ran by engineers so don't expect surveyors to be treated as well. I wasn't.
In any event, I was exposed to more stuff in a short time than most do in many years of practice. They gave me great latitudes in experience and at the same time they took great advantage of my computer science and mathematics background.
They pulled me out of the field to do a 2 week traffic study. I didn't know a thing about that stuff nor the equipment involved. None of the engineers I worked with did either. They turned me loose with it in any event. I had to locate and setup all the equipment solo. I think it was to monitor 7 points of ingress and egress for the hospital in Asheville. I was cautioned that I should expect security to pester me about what I was doing so I always kept a pocket full of business cards on hand.
Anyway, I got er done. Then I was tasked to analyze the data. My goodness, I was a $10/hr rodman at the time. The traffic engineers should do that, not me. But, I did that as well.
They were shocked when I turned in my notice after a year and I was still a $10/hr rodman but by then I had party chiefed some and was the full time I-man. The guy that hired me there tried to hire me away for about a 50% increase.
I still have friends there. I'm not dissing them.
Tony, who is still there, was my favorite party chief ever. I had figured out how to do field-to-finish one day. Tony was blown away.

Anyway, they are good people to work for... even if the company is ran by engineers who don't know anything about actually running a business.
I would work for them again without much thought.
