s it just me, or does anyone else think of Pearl Harbour when the Asian guy is standing behind that steel structure?

Nothing like a little racism in the morning, huh

Please tell us your meandering thoughts on when you see a black surveyor

I saw that too, @JPH.?ÿ

However, It can be flashback. So, not necessarily.

I dated a girl, whose dad was in ww2. He had flashbacks. About DAMN GERMANS. Seeing some things set him off.

Another friend, talked about "gooks". He was traumatized, in 'nam.

Give him some room.

Trauma can do this. Don't assume racism.

I'm prejudiced against fire ants.

the Asian guy ... Pearl Harbour

He and his father were not yet born at that time.?ÿ Maybe not even his grandfather. And you don't know where any of those were born. So there is no reason to connect him to historical events. Sheesh.

My only thought was - Why? Why is he doing that??ÿ

My guesses are that either he was afraid he would get in the line of sight if in front, or he found that an easier way to brace himself to hold the rod steady.

@holy-cow

I was standing behind my Wild T1100 when the Great Nisqually Quake hit. My first thought was to protect my gun; I put my hands up close the gun, just in case it fell over and watched the poplar trees sway back and forth and the water in the river slosh around. Thank God it staid put.

When it stopped, I turned to check the back-site, which was behind me, and it was right on!

That was a tight set-up!

@dougie

That's amazing! I probably would have jumped the gun and put it back in the case and I'd always wonder how the backsight would have been.?ÿ

I said, and I quote "I watched a WWII documentary this morning, so maybe it is only me." That was my caveat.

The topic was on my mind.

Suggesting that Asian people are associated with Pearl Harbour is far from racism.

You know....history and all that stuff.

Calm down.

It would also be wrong to assume that I suffer from the same white guilt that Americans have. I am Australian. We have a very different type of white guilt.

@nate-the-surveyor

Thank you for the benefit of the doubt Nate, but in this case it really isn't necessary.

I made it very clear that I had just watched a documentary on the WWII. Pearl Harbour was featured.

Saying that Asians were part of the Pearl Harbour bombings is not racist. It is fact.

Saying that they bombed Pearl Harbour specifically because they are Asian is racist.

For the record, I lived in Germany for 11 years. I am on my second marriage. Both of my wives were/are German by birth. I have a daughter to each of them. As such both of my kids are half German and half Australian.

Strangely, my great-uncles fought Rommel in North Africa. And yet I still married two Germans.

I have no issue with what I said. I did not make a derogatory remark in any way whatsoever.

I am only responsible for what I write- not for what people read.

Actually, no. I haven't gone far enough.

You have not only falsely accused me of making a racist remark in your first sentence, you've gone one step further and assumed that I am racist against black people.

That is slander. Where I am from, slander is a criminal offence.

How dare you.

I watched a documentary for god's sake. The image was fresh in my mind. I made that abundantly clear.

Why the hell would you accuse me of being racist when I made a factual historical reference?

How dare you!!!

I. Did. Not. Claim. That. Asian. People. Bombed. Pearl Harbour. Because. They. Were. Asian.

During WWII, a group of American soldiers exited a train carriage in northern Australia. They were on their way back to the dock after some R&R, to be sent back to New Guinea. A group of tired and battle weary Australian soldiers were waiting to get on the same train to go for their own R&R. The Americans, refreshed and in a jovial mood, joked and claimed that they had just fornicated with all of the Australian's wives. The Australians, in no mood and fully armed, killed them all.

The event was covered up by both of our governments.

There you go. A historical reference to a wartime event. But it is Anglo-Saxon/Celtic-on-Anglo-Saxon/Celtic violence. Can you find racism there too? There is literally NO difference between the two references.

How dare you.

Both my grandfathers fought in Papua. Am I allowed to mention who they were fighting against? Or is that racist?

Just because you have a paranoid relationship with other cultures or races do NOT assume that I do too.

The French invaded Russia. The Jews are taking land from Palestinians. The English walked into Ireland and took the land out from under my family's feet. I am aware of these events....therefore I must be racist. Right?

Let's hope you don't apply the same "logical thinking" to your survey practice.
