Hi Guys,

I've recently bought a used Topcon GPT-3005LN total station. I've managed to upload data to it following the process both in the manual for the machine and the Toplink manual. The data behaved itself on import, and I was able to do a survey (placing subdivisional beacons, for which I imported calculated coordinates onto the TS, and then used the 'LAYOUT' mode to place them, and the 'DATA COLLECT' mode to measure the placed beacons).

The trouble comes in with the data import FROM the TS - I've followed the instructions in both the manual and Toplink, but two things happen:

1. When selecting 'MEMORY MGR' [F3] > [F4][F4] > 'DATA TRANSFER' [F1] > 'GTS FORMAT' [F1] > 'SEND DATA' [F1] > 'MEAS DATA' [F1], the data starts sending, then the TS freezes, followed by Toplink telling me that the data transfer has 'timed out'. From the videos I've found on YouTube (both by guys in Asia / Asia Pacific), they do not have the same problem. Have checked my comms ports, the parity, the protocol, the lot, and it still fails.

2. When selecting 'SSS FORMAT' [F2] > 'SEND DATA' [F1] > 'MEAS DATA' [F1], the data transfers successfully (as a .txt file) but the point 'from' data is lost and all I have left is the 'to' data, which, as I'm sure you can guess, is meaningless. From a topic I found on here, I'm beginning to suspect that the file type is somehow being corrupted with the conversion to .txt?

Another idea is that the total station memory needs to be initialised to reset it? Is there a setting on the TS that I'm missing that it saves/doesn't save the 'from' information in the measured data file? This doesn't make sense to me at all.

I have no idea how to proceed from here, other than to maybe go back and check all my observations that I haven't corrupted a PCODE somewhere, which is the only other thing I can think of that would have failed so dismally.

I am however able to download the 'COORD DATA' from the TS - I'm stumped.

Looking forward to potential solutions
