A friend has given me a Topcon AP-L1A and Husky FS/2 that he dragged out of the closet.?ÿ Not wanting to see good equipment thrown away, and having another surveyor friend mildly interested in robotics, I decided to dust it off and see if it can be useful for him.?ÿ
So far I have learned...
1.?ÿ The the Husky's batteries are dead, the charger is missing and the battery door is frozen shut.?ÿ
2.?ÿ My SurvCE 4.0 on my Allegro MX will not talk to the AP-L1A despite having robotics enabled.?ÿ The is no option for the AP-L1A and no other Topcon protocol works.?ÿ?ÿ (This is a cabled connection).?ÿ I also understand that Carlson, at some point, stopped putting the AP-L1A equipment settings in SurvCE prior to ver 4.?ÿ
My questions are
A.?ÿ Does anyone have a model number on the FS/2 AC adapter and a battery part number??ÿ I have found an adapter on Google for $60, but would like to verify the #s before dropping the coin.?ÿ
B.?ÿ Will Survey Pro work with the instrument??ÿ My friend has the TS license on a Ranger 3 and mentioned possibly upgrading.?ÿ
C.?ÿ Can a SurvCE equipment setup be created or made to work??ÿ?ÿ Anyone experience this??ÿ
?ÿ
The instrument will turn on, the Satel radios power up and seem to detect the DC connection, but keep getting stuck on the DC connection / settings.
A) if the battery door is locked down it is due to the batteries inside leaking and it is going to be difficult to get it open. If you do get it open drop some regular old AA batteries in her and power it up.?ÿ
B) Yes, older versions will. TDS is more than likely on that husky.?ÿ
C) old versions of SurvCE will run this gear... I used it a long time ago.?ÿ
@hooks Yeah, the battery door is really bad. I've had it in a vise with a BF flathead screwdriver and it will turn about an eighth inch either way.
I've got an older Carlson Explorer ver 2. somthin' , however, it doesn't have Robotics enabled and I kinda doubt there is an upgrade path without buying new.
Thanks.
Let Some " Liquid Wrench" type product penetrate the threads. ?ÿWork that cap screw back and forth. Stopping when you feel too much ?ÿResistance. ?ÿA set of AA alkaline batteries should last a week or longer with moderate usage.?ÿ
Does the AP-L1A have a Satel radio setup for the rod??ÿ That is going to be about the only way to communicate with it.?ÿ The radios in that version almost certainly had NiCad batteries in the battery pack.?ÿ They are almost surely shot by now.?ÿ They could be replaced with NiMH batteries, but the charger will not work with the NiMH cells.
Try to install Topsurv 7 or 8 and test.
