Hey guys,

So I am new to using SurvPC with a total station. Can anyone enlighten me, in the "Store Points" routine, or any routine for that matter, is there a way to show the Easting Northing and Elevation in real time as you would see it if using a GNSS receiver as opposed to seeing the Azimuth, Zenith Angle and Slope Distance?

@jph thanks for the reply. I should’ve been clearer perhaps. Do you know if there is a way to see the real time XYZ as you are moving about in storing points? Particularly Z

You can make the elevations layer visible in the map-view. Not real time, but for every stored point.

I’ve always just assumed it doesn’t calculate the NEZ coordinates until you save the point.

I’m going to make a guess, because the gear is all put away right now: SurvPC & SurvCE have a couple options to prompt the user to enter add’l info after reading the shot but before saving it to a file.  I use these to double check the HI before saving the point. Perhaps you can take the shot and then one of these prompt screens might show the NEZ before saving it to a point.

Would the data on the stake point screen give you enough of what you want?

Of course you could just use a GNSS receiver:)

@toeknee it’s not a biggie I guess but sometimes it is useful when tryin to just quickly check if there is fall along a waterway  for example without going to the effort of saving points.

Maybe you can have a look at the settings for READ and STORE.

most of us has that setup so an enter key reads an observation and store the results in 1 move butyou can change that into 2 steps.

I also looked for it in vain.

As proposed by other forum users, I use STORE, without saving the point, as a workaround.

@ladd-nelson Could it be implemented in the future for a next release? For example switching from Azimuth, Zenith Angle and Slope Distance to coordinates by clicking on it. It doesn't cost anything to ask...

Calc a point at your origin and another at az 0 and do line staking with sta for N and OS for E. JK, I am sitting in a mechanics waiting room and only posting out of boredom.

@arabicaboy As far as I can discern, the requested functionality is already in SurvCE/SurvPC:

RTSPosition
  1. Presuming Robotic Total Station operations -- Store Points -- Tracking is enabled (see upper right)
  2. Tap on View Options (see lower left) -- Data tab.
  3. Set Total Station Display to Position.

I hope this information helps.

@ladd-nelson it worked great thanks Ladd, I hadn't noticed the change in options available in this dialogue.

@ladd-nelson Thanks for your detailed answer. It will be very usefull for me to be able to switch easily from Az-ZA-SD to N-E-Z and reverse. And it seems that others will be able to use this feature thanks to your explanations.

Perhaps you could still suggest to the development team the idea of changing the display by clicking on the data? There are so many settings in so many menus with so many clicks to do in SurvCE/PC!
