While looking for something else today I found a corner report for a south quarter corner that now has a 5/8" iron bar reportedly 1.25 feet north and 0.37 feet west of the 1/2" iron bar that had been obliterated by highway reconstruction.?ÿ This was reported almost exactly three years ago by a quality survey firm.?ÿ I can assure you they doubled checked numerous monuments that existed prior to the highway work before stating what has happened.?ÿ They felt obligated to accept the monument as now being the corner monument.?ÿ I'm not going to make a statement here, pro or con.

Someone providing survey services for the DOT work screwed the pooch big time.?ÿ This isn't out in the boonies.?ÿ This is an area of a city that is rapidly expanding along that route.?ÿ The highway work was probably in the range of four or five years back.?ÿ I am familiar with the bar that was present prior to that time and have used it numerous times in three of the four possible directions over the decades.

My current task is to relocate tract corners that, in theory, should tie back to the section line but are a portion of a platted lot in a subdivision.?ÿ The lot was the site of a new hotel and convention center with parking areas and new side streets and utilities brought to the site.?ÿ The tract I'm working with is one corner of the original lot that was left out with the hope a restaurant chain would want to put a new building on it.?ÿ I'm almost positive all monuments set nearly ten years ago have been obliterated, so this should be fun.?ÿ There have been at least four other survey firms involved on that lot since I was there last.

Problems my new position will not require me to lose sleep over.?ÿ

Seriously, though that sucks...time to make that dreaded call to Surveyor "who missed the corner"

Had something like that happen before, we tied in an intersection monument, at the corner of a plat of that contained lots worth maybe $50,000,000 with homes on them worth another $200,000,000 (low rent part of town...really truly). The monument controlled the centerline along the longest side of the plat, and I tied it out long before we recorded the master plat, including ties to lead and tacks in the curbs, other centerline monuments, etc. No doubt where the monument was.

The intersection got new concrete at one point (maybe 5 years into the project), and, as we were resetting a monument on line with that monument, I popped the new case open to use it for line and check the distance...no monument...hmmm...no one was in a big hurry, we would put something in there at some point and show in on one of the phases. I believe the plat showed it visited on a certain date and not there on a later date (to borrow from a previous thread).

Well, some one else put a mon in the case, and when they did, the monument was in a different place by something like a 0.4'.

I don't remember what was shown on the next platted phase...visited on a certain date, not there at a later date, and a different mon found at yet a later date, I suppose.
