I have a tribrach that a client gave me. It has a laser plummet on it, but it does not work. I would like to replace it with an optical plummet.

I have looked online without much luck. Is there anywhere I can look at replacement optical plummets online?

This one has two screws on the side where the plumment comes out of the side of the tribrach, and one screw opposite of the eyepiece. This plummet slides under the topof the tribrach, and the screws go thru the top of the tribrach where the prism adapter sits in the tribrach.

Thanks

Optical plummet tribrachs aren't terribly expensive to buy used. I've seen some good Topcons go for $100 or less, and some Wilds for not much more. Some (most?) of the aftermarket laser tribrachs aren't of very high quality, so I question whether what you have is worth trying to repair.

Jim,

This tribrach seems to be of decent quality. It will be used mostly for backsight setups, and static GPS sessions.

I don't do the leapfrog method when traversing. I check my tribrachs on a regular basis, and keep them in either the padded bags or padded cases when not in use.

The laser plummet appears to have been the victim of a leaking battery.:excruciating:

Thanks,
Jimmy

Is there a way to rig an external battery, since it seems somewhat likely the laser LED is still ok?

Not that I can see. It is a pretty self contained unit.

Here is a picture of the laser plummet that does not work.

That is true!

I just noticed that I misspelled optical in the thread heading. Sorry. I posted that last night on my nook and was pretty tired.

I have not had good luck in finding parts for tribrachs

Needed the stop screw in the pushme pullme focus on a sokkia tribrach

Got one for $100 fee and it fell out a few months later.

:-O
