I have survce on board the ts does anybody know of a way to trigger the #keys on the keypad to produce alpha.
Phone style keypad. I just got off the phone with carlson and they said that I have to use the virtual keypad ?. That is a bit of a deal breaker for me, every other ts I've used with this style keypad you just press the # more than once and start to get letters.
Also anybody know how to add any function to the function keys F1 thru F12. I would like to make some hotkeys but it seems as if that may not be happening.
I was hoping that getting the carlson cr2 branded TS that the onboard keypad would have more functionality but honestly it still has the feel of 3rd party software running a TS.
Ok so maybe no users of the carlson cr total station. Anybody running a geomax zoom 90 with any kind of dc software onboard the instrument? Weird the geomax zoom 90 manual is not right where it shows the keyboard layout. It calls for a shift key to activate alpha which is non existent on the ts or in the picture in the manual and yes the picture in the manual matches my ts exactly except for the carlson stickers.

It is my understanding that the Carlson total station is a rebranded Geo-Max. I have a Zoom 90 Geo-Max and use a separate field computer.?ÿ
And I have never once seen anyone use the on board data collection on a total station. Never, ever! The capability is there but I will never use it.
You will likely experience very few responses as nearly everybody uses a separate data collector. Unless your from Europe. I hear the European surveyors use onboard data collection.
As I tell my helpers, it should be explained by Manual, that booklet that came with the equipment.
If not, Carlson will have a source online or from one of their technicians that can explaine it in detail.
Read on brother.
Call me old school but most of our projects we run a 2 man crew. We do some one man stuff robotic but only in very open sites. Open as in sites without any obstructions. I get way to frustrated with dealing with prism lock and whatnot and find things just are more efficient for us with a person behind the TS. Other than running a robot i haven't used a data collector while standing behind the TS since the 90's TDS on an HP.
Well heck fire, most everyone prefers a 2 man crew over 1 man but that is not always possible. I would prefer a 4 man crew myself but unless prevailing prices for our services rise by huge amounts I will never see that.
I have never used on board data collection and have never seen anyone who has.?ÿ
I too have a Geomax Zoom 90 and as JustASurveyor points out the only time I use main interface of the instrument is to go through the adjustment and calibration routines once a week.

I used to use the on-board collection on a Leica TCR403.?ÿ I could wear a rodman out with it!?ÿ 🙂
In the manual it shows that the FNC key is actually the shift key, (the bottom lefthand orange key), kinda makes sense as function and shift terminology crosses over in some applications.. On the Leica 1200's you would press SHIFT F5 or F6 for Caps lock, but it's probably different with this jigger. Hopefully when you do hit the FNC key you might see new option pop up on the screen for you to change the keys to upper case.

No luck zammo. If you look closely the manual also calls for the enter key to be function the on/off key to be enter etc.?ÿ
The Geomax manual for the keyboard interface is a mess.?ÿ
The page key does prompt for hotkeys and there is some preassigned hot keys that do different functions but not sure how to customize them.
Anyway totally different then on the dc with all the alt hot keys.
Thanks guys for all input.
I have a Geomax Zoom 90 with X-Pad and SurvCE onboard.?ÿ About creating shortcuts with F7- F12 keys, this is the answer I got from Geomax when I asked them if there is a way to do it:
"The configuration of the F buttons is managed by the field software.
?ÿ
In X-PAD you cannot assign the?ÿfunctions?ÿsince they are already assigned by default by X-PAD.
?ÿ
To give you an idea:
?ÿ
The buttons F1 to F6 corresponds to the functions in the bottom of the screen, the buttons F7 to F9 to the functions on the left side of the screen, the buttons from F10 to F12 to the functions on the right side.?ÿ See picture attached.
?ÿ
Also,?ÿthe FNC + other buttons are configured to perform different operations.
Example:?ÿ there is a quick key selection for the level screen (FNC + decimal)
Atmospheric settings and Laser pointer must be accessed through the software."
?ÿ
A bit disappointing when compared with Leica TPS 1200 where you can customize the F keys the way you want.?ÿ
Otherwise, Zoom 90 is a great instrument. I got it in 1" and 1000m reflectorless. I am really impressed with the ATR on this instrument. I can take accurate,?ÿrepeatable measurements past 250m (825') when using Leica Circular Prism, a pole with a bipod and an 8' bubble. I would never go past 120m (393') with my?ÿold 1"?ÿLeica TPS1200.?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ
Onboard is great, especially with Captivate. Slide SD card out of CS20, pop it in the TS & go. Onle less thing to carry around the construction site or through the woods. Feel like going robotic, pop the card back into the data collecter and go to town.?ÿ
I started on the Leica TCRA1100 robots running SurveyPro so, unless we were solo or staking with a hammer jockey it was always one guy behind the gun using onboard.
I know that most survey work is done from the pole nowadays, but I still prefer to traverse using my eyes without autolock, having on-board interfaces on the jigger makes this so much easier with one less thing to have to lug around.
