I saw this today. I immediately wondered who had the thrilling job of setting out all of the mirrors.
I think the novelty would wear off fairly quickly.
Bechtel Power a division of Bechtel Group is who built Ivanpah Solar Project. My former lead worked on the project From Oct. 2009 till June 2013.;-) 🙂 😀
I've laid out solar farms and it's really not that bad. Once you get a rhythm going your day goes extremely fast and you can put several hundred points in the ground.
It's funny you posted this because I was just reading that this project fries birds in midair, lots of birds. Fried chicken everyday for the operators!!!
Worked on a project just north of this site. It was a metering facility for a natural gas line lateral to the site. Go figure, natural gas to power a solar energy facility:'(
@donald-gardner what is your experience with solar farm layout my company just purchased our first Vermeer pd10 pile driver for a project coming up we our looking for the most efficient way of laying the piles out rather it be gps rover work and a laser attached to the pd10 for elevation or machine control also have heard of some companies using total stations on smaller projects
@ghsjr1966 what was your method for layout on this project my company has a couple solar farms coming up and im trying to get the best plan of attack on how our team can lay these pile out any information would be greatly appreciated

Read where the biggest material expense in building out the 5G wireless network is.......wire.?ÿ?ÿ
@tollejr3 Sounds like you're using the right rig and have the right approach already. You should be able to do this stakeless using the method you're describing. Machine control should get you on location within tolerance of pile location.
I guess using a total station will depend on how many piles you're talking about and how many rigs to drive them.
