Had a potential client tell me that he didn't think having his land surveyed would, "cost so much"

So I asked him what he was basing that on.?ÿ He said that he googled the cost of having land surveyed.?ÿ And no sh@#, google is giving prices of $300-700.?ÿ Where the heck are these prices coming from??ÿ

I explained that, that amount was basically our admin/setup/overhead cost, without doing any actual survey.?ÿ Then told him what goes into a survey.?ÿ But it was on deaf ears at that point, I think

Any idea how google gets these estimates, which I think are false, and how to stop that kind of inaccurate info?

I have no idea to stop google from spreading this BS.  But I bet somewhere there's a real estate salesperson that is at the root of it all.

Maybe google is averaging prices from all locations.  I still see $500 - $700 surveys here in eastern NC.  I often get the "sticker shocked"  look from many when I quote them something vastly different.

Writers hired by sites like Angi have a large portion of blame for the misinformation being distributed.

Then there are the price quotes that would drastically increase the numbers listed.  For example, two days ago a young married lady calls and is mad at her neighbors.  A screaming match had occurred earlier in the day with both parties (one side being renters) squabbling over a little patch of grass on a 50 by 150 lot.  She was willing to spend $100 to "show that hussy" where the line REALLY IS.  I explained the fee would be a double-digits muliiplier of her preferred expenditure.  The call ended.

@holy-cow

I guess proving how right she is has its limit.  And $100 is it

@holy-cow

I'm just impressed that people still use the word "hussy".   That's good up bringin'.

Around here a hussy is one notch up on the scale from a biddy.  Biddies work at the courthouse and I run into hussies in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot.

A bleached blond hussy in a black suburban is usually considered a Karen.

@kevin-hines  The Texas contractor building the hurricane replacement house next to me used an Angi referenced surveyor. One corner held was a 3 foot offset and the other a ground rod for the power pole. He was getting ready to set me a new corner, so I showed him the foot deep iron pipe. You go girl.

And that's really weird to me because they claim that they use real-world data to calculate their estimates.

Then again, maybe all the lowballers use Angi?

Hi

I don't give out estimate without seeing a deed, had one guy called a couple times a week for a month then one day he called and asked for an estimate, about five different ways when I asked to see his deed he then just got really frustrated. Said some not nice things and hung up. never called back.

I was told that it was a local guy doing the Angi thing, could be wrong, but then some people get all upset that it would cost more than 100 to survey their 500,000 property

Pick two of these 3 is what I say: price, quality, and time.

Sure, but my overall issue is that the public is being fed some bad and inaccurate information and it's not really helping our cause, to have them see and believe the true value of our services

It used to be that we were competing against the low baller.  Now it seems that we're also up against fictitious online informational sites

I think they're using the cost of a "mortgage survey" for the estimate.  Of course no one reads that far into the article to figure that out, even if the author knows about it.
