I turned in 18 parcels written like this and received the same comment on every one of them.?ÿ
I sent back the descriptions without changing and notes stating the way I have it is correct and proper grammar. They are still pushing me to change it. How would you respond?
They might be technically correct, but a lot of people would do it each way.?ÿ It is such an irrelevant issue that reviewers should ignore it, because the meaning is clear and that is what matters.
In common (American) English usage, decimal quantities get the plural (0.6 acres), fractions do not (three-fifths of an acre). Singular specifically refers to one, not more or less than one.
They can go pound sand. Or at least remove the stick from you-know-where., because even if you were using the singular, it doesn't materially change the meaning at all.
I don??t know who they are but if this delays the project it might not be worth winning the battle.
What is an EIT property description?
I'm of the "acre" persuasion.?ÿ I'm writing numerous sub-acre easements right now.?ÿ Or "0.xxx of an acre".?ÿ But Mr. Bill93 is right.?ÿ I can sign it either way.
@bryan-newsome if you write "of an acre" you are correct to use the singular, but if writing containing XXX acres, you use the plural unless it is actually 1.?ÿ
This is all about countable nouns.

@fairbanksls An engineer in training (EIT) was doing the review and pushing back that my grammar is off.
Personally if it??s 1.001 then I use acres. If it??s less than 1.000 I typically use square feet rather than acre.?ÿ
If I??m using the previous description, then I use exactly what that description used, right or wrong. Like others have said, it seems like a moot point because the intent is clear.?ÿ
Step one, call the reviewer and politely explain why you wrote it that way. If he relents you are done, if not move to step two.
Step two, call his boss. Explain that his insolent twit reviewer needs a slap.
Allowing those with perceived power to force us to do things wrong 'just to get the project done' doesn't cut it. You let that slide and you'll end up being held hostage forever.
Didn??t check your profile. Why is an EIT checking an RPLS??s work? ?ÿSounds backwards to me if it is in the same office.
He's just wrong.?ÿ ?????ÿ
But apparently he's in good company

Sounds awful to my ear, but I guess it's standard practice sometimes...in some places...by some people...
I'm of the same opinion as @rover83, especially because it is your plat, your seal, and your signature.?ÿ Instead of getting in a argument (after you explain your position as THE SURVEYOR, remove it from the description and list only the square footage.
SWMBO says 0.1607 acres.?ÿ More or less is important when calling out a square foot.
Descriptions bring out weird impulses from various practitioners. I write a description for something we need from Caltrans, he sends it back rewritten, I say fine it is clear what difference does it make. He used ??true point of beginning.? My boss??s boss came unglued LOL, he hates ??true point of beginning? like it??s some sort of blasphemy against the survey gods.
I don??t want to write descriptions anymore and I don??t see why I need to sign them, it??s just a description, not a survey. Give them back to the title company like it used to be.
I would delete the letter FFS it??s not some sort of slippery slope. Next time he??ll demand square furlongs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha?ÿ I don't really like true point of beginning either.?ÿ It's like a verbal pincushion.?ÿ It's used so much though that if I write plain old 'point of beginning' it just looks... insufficient.?ÿ
