I went to the Bowman museum in Prineville Oregon this week to do some research and spied this ?ÿcool1930s Civilian Conservation Corps uniform patch with a tripod/level on it.
Edit: from a TVA website about the CCC:
This arm patch reflects some of the areas of emphasis of the Civilian Conservation Corps work. In this case, forestry, conservation, surveying, and mapping are all suggested by the design of the patch. This patch stands separate from the Civilian Conservation Corps insignia patch, the Company-specific patches, and those chevron or stripe patches worn to designate a rank within the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Edit 2: the TVA site description of the patch -
Shield-shaped red felt patch embroidered in gold and green thread with a tree, a surveying tool, and the letters "CCC" appearing at the top of the shield.
If I had a nickel for every time I??ve been called a ??surveying tool? I would be a rich man by now.
