@jph

There is always going to be the odd bad one. That's when you want to know they are at least easy to work on to fix. I have 2 extra 5.3 engines for my 05 Silverado, that I'll hopefully never need. But one cost $300 with 200,000kms and the other came with a full truck for $800 which we parted out.

The 10 speed transmission on the 2018 f150 our company has would have been around $12,000 had it not been covered under powertrain warranty.

It's not something you want to take off road

This guy didn't take that to heed - nuts what he did in one, not something I would recommend.  I think it would be sufficient to get around a farm field based on this.

@i-ben-havin I had a 93 w/ a four-cylinder - no air no frills.  It was pretty amazing what it would do, but still nothing like a Rubicon trim level.

My dad owned a bronco sport. Just traded it in with 1800 miles on the clock.

he said the engine was noisy, and it started having multiple recalls.

somethinf related to the transmission, front end suspension, and a few others.

the dealer said they didn’t know when they would be able to get the parts to even take care of the recalls.

so he just traded it in. Might be a first gen type thing. Work out the kinks.

Well, I test drove a Bronco Sport and found that I did not like the transmission shifts AT ALL!  Might be some of what your dad was experiencing.  It was a nice enough ride, but between second and third and third and fourth, it felt like the whole drive line was shutting down.  Tested at various levels of acceleration and it was always in those two gear changes.

Tried a new Ranger they had on the lot as well and found that it shifted strangely as well.

Ended up just getting another Nissan Frontier.  It has smooth shifts, decent acceleration, not too bad of gas mileage and just enough off-road ability for what I need (minimal).

@gordon-svedberg I had thought about the CX5 before.  Had a 626 a LONG time ago and it was an outstanding vehicle.  If the Mazda build quality is still on par with that, it would be a really reliable vehicle.

I bought a Mazda 6 (at the end of the model) and love it.   gets 35 mpg all day long and rides like a dream.   My daughter drives the "old" 2012 Cx5 in college and it still drives like brand new.
