The 8th edition is now available at Amazon. Tony Nettleman is an author. Pricey at $160 a pop. Over at Alibris.com they have copies at $128 per, plus shipping. So maybe I'll be waiting for the price to drop.
The 7th edition of Evidence and Procedures (also with Nettleman) has been out for awhile and is listed at $115 on Amazon. Alibris for $78, plus shipping.
Note that for entry level people I still recommend the early editions of these books, which can be had at Alibris, tonight, for as little as $11 a copy. Soak that up before wading into these more bloated later editions.
I recently watched some Tony Nettleman videos on You Tube where he continually used the terms back site and fore site while describing differential leveling. I beleive this is incorrect.
My choice would be backsight and foresight.
Sounds like an error by an editor/proofreader.
I went through Nettleman's $500 online PS course to help study for that test. I think he's probably a very competent land attorney with a focus on survey legal and theory, but got the sense he (and apparently his editing team) are not super experience actual surveyors. Good info, though, and I believe worth the $ and effort, but I did "contest" or flag for comment probably a dozen or more items where technical terms or references were misused or they were missing a practical component in description of a method or process. They were quick to respond and update their material when appropriate, so I figured that too was just another element that helped me learn. Passed the PS (and FS) first try.
Watched another video and he keeps saying Pith-ag-oh-ree-us. This is obviously wrong and you can't blame the proofreader for this error. Why add a syllable to the Greek name?
So Wilson and Robillard added Nettleman to their Brown's book and came out with an 8th Edition? This will make the 7th Edition more affordable for my students! If the 8th Edition improves readability with fewer contradictions, then it would be worth a look.
I'm not sure of Wilson or Robillard's status but both are well into their 80s and may be slowing down.
