@mightymoe THRAC alert - What kind of robo-mower is that? How do you like it?
Best thing ever invented!!!!
Its a Works Landroid.
It mows the lawn almost perfectly, it works on a timer, has razor blades to cut the grass.
And it's almost silent, you can't hear it inside and almost can't hear it outside. It also gets right up to the edges, I have a few spots to whack down, but not many.
Drawbacks are having someone steal it, it does have a GPS locater to track it. Also you need to keep the yard picked up, my apple tree is going to be a problem (I should just cut it down), sticks are a bit of an issue. Anything big like a chair or table it will avoid.
It's a big thumbs up so far.
I have it set-up for the backyard and haven't mowed it in weeks. The front yard is next, but I need time to lay out the boundary wire.
I used to work for that company and with that party chief. He actually does real solid work
and no it isn’t me lol
chk.
my interview was less than interesting, and they weren't sure how to utilize me....all in all the photo is promoting the career path so I appreciate it for what it is there.
I'm glad you had a good experience with them through him.
@andy-j did those videos say how they set up the limits of your yard so the thing knows where to stop? It doesn't work like a Roomba since there aren't walls normally or like our Dusty layout robot that's controlled by a total station.
Some of them have a wire in the ground and some actually have a sort of RTK base/rover setup.

....has this wise ol guy seemingly doing good work.....until you see it.....
One of the things this guy is doing wrong is wearing the wrong color hat. There is a color code. Yellow is for general laborers, blue for skilled trades, brown for welders, orange for crane operators, green for inspectors, red for safety officers.
Black is for owners and management, Grey for visitors.
Superintendents, engineers, and surveyors wear white hats.
The main advantage of a national survey firm is the ability to throw more resources at a project. When it comes to quality of work bigger isn’t always better, many times far from it.
It’s just a stock photo probably grabbed by the advertising company. I once saw a U.S. company ad with workers holding a metric level rod.

As a crew chief I often used a metric rod on USACE projects in the 90's
These staged marketing photos are crap. They would probably dampen the interest of any experienced Surveyor who might have thought about digging deeper into potentially pursuing a job lead.
I worked as a LS/PM for a company that had offices up and down the east coast before the market crash of 2008. Back then, and probably now, they always had the latest and greatest field equipment and had their in-house marketing people go out and take real time photos of crews working on significant job sites to market the business to potential employees and clients.
Flash forward to 2023, they are still using the same photos with the same employees (who moved on after getting laid off with me in 2008) from when I was still with them. Every time I see their posts I just have to laugh.
... they are still using the same photos with the same employees ...
Pet peeve of mine is websites that crow about their progressive thinking and cutting edge technology with 20 yr old photos of guys using stuff that was new 20 yrs ago.
The first indication of the distinct disconnect between the workers and those who own the company.
I about went into shock many years ago when my first meeting for a job interview was NOT anyone directly connected with the department for which I would be working, if hired. Instead, I met with the Head of Industrial Relations (whatever that might mean). Oh, we had a fine chat about how she and my mother grew up in the same town about the same time and how one of my univeristy engineering professors had lived just down the street a bit from her when she was a little girl hauling her dollies around in a homemade wagon.

I recently reviewed some "big survey firm" work. It was not good. Their theory was way off what it should have been.
@norman-oklahoma He is looking at the swimming pool. Thats why he is holding the tripod .
For some reason the antenna is the most cringey thing to me. Ha It doesn't matter if it's a total station or a toys r us walkie talkie, everyone recognizes a bad antenna configuration.
