Hey All,

I am using a tsc7 with Survey Access on it. I completed a job recently, and went to export it the following day. It was as if the job never happened. Has anyone else encountered this problem, and if so is there a solution?

I have not had this happen on a TSC7 but it became a pretty regular occurrence on our CS-20.?ÿ We traded it in on TSC7, I hope it does not start happening there too!

I have not yet seen a job file actually disappear from a controller without someone getting into Access and manually deleting it.

There was a bug around 2021.10 that resulted in the OS not writing data from temporary to permanent storage at regular intervals. This was only a problem if the job was not closed out and the controller put directly into sleep mode without properly shutting down Access. Like having a document open on a laptop that gets forcibly shut down before saving the file or closing the program.

However, that bug was both very rare (we saw it happen exactly once before the bug was fixed, with ~40 controllers in the field every day), and would not result in the job being completely wiped, only the most recent section of observed data would be gone. That bug was fixed in 2021.21.

If the job itself is totally gone, that would be something different.

I would go looking under the Trimble Data folder in the File Explorer just in case something got moved/copied.

Its too late for this job, but setting up GoogleDrive on the TSC7 will at least give you a copy of the last state of the job

@johnh2005 This is the first instance in 3 years, and I would guess its user error. Its like i never did the job.

@james-deitrick We do have google drive set up. There's no evidence of it there either.

@rover83 I have gone into the files. I was hoping it was there too. I'm not sure if it got moved somewhere or not. If i had to guess it got overwritten somehow. That's what makes the most sense.

@observer28?ÿ

Are you using the cloud (Trimble Connect), with Sync Manager in the office, to transfer files?

I have seen instances where two projects with the exact same name exist, one on the controller and one on both controller and cloud. Someone deletes the wrong one in the field and boom, bye bye data.

I highly recommend cloud transfer if you have a SIM card in the controller. You can set it up to push jobs to the cloud periodically, or whenever you end a setup, open a project, etc.

Google Drive won't help you out unless you're manually uploading regularly, and that's what the Trimble cloud services are already there for...

If so, go open other recent jobs (albeit with different names)ƒ??maybe youƒ??ll find your work in one of thoseƒ??

?ÿ

What I mean to say is maybe your ƒ??lostƒ? job overwrote some other older jobƒ??

We saw a weird occurrence on the TSC7 last week. The survey styles were disappearing. I had created one for a Nikon and set up a test survey style that had some unique settings as I was experimenting with some different things. And I didnƒ??t want the crew chief who usually ran that TSC7 to get upset because of the changes. Anyway we spent the day in the field together. And every single time we set up on a new point a different survey style would be gone or reappeared. ?ÿI told him to back everything up and reload or update the software and operating system. He likes to keep jobs forever on it. ?ÿ

@OleManRiver

Trap for young players #461: Access shows/hides survey styles.

What instrument you are connected makes a difference - you only see 'valid' styles in the list

If your controller auto-connects to the nearest instrument it finds you might be surprised. (This tends to happen mostly in the office)

Also ending a survey does not necessarily end a connection.

?ÿ

It is really really rare that a controller looses data or files.

?ÿ

But if you do want to check your TSC7.

Each style should have a matching .sty file in Access' System folder.

If a style file is missing Access will recreate it from defaults.

Maybe it got deleted - check the recycle bin.

If actually you are losing files, as opposed to it not being shown in Access, I would suggest running Chkdsk from windows

@jimcox yes i know you can check uncheck gnss robotics etc. It did not lose them they just disappeared and reappeared throughout the day. Towards the end he did a reboot or restart and they stayed for the next two setups. I think its just a day of glitches lol. It was just not acting right. And the guy who normally runs that was frustrated as some other things popped up but I was running from yellow jackets at the time so i did not get to see what he was raising a fuss about. I did find out he was not up to date on TA nor his operating system. I have no worries on it but yes you are correct about TA staying connected even after ending survey. ?ÿThat is one thing I would like to see is an option to power down s series like it does with the receiver. But I realize that you might be 500 ft away from robot and not Bluetooth like we are with a receiver. So i am sure sending a message over the radio might be more trouble than itƒ??s worth. I apologize i have not responded sooner. But we just wrapped up the last field of stacking hay so was a big day between raking and baling today then getting it all on trailers. Thank you for passing the information for sure .
