Trouble opening dwg files with Land Desktop after viewing/working with Carlson

Is there a quick fix to actually opening a dwg file after opening it in Carlson(2015)? We always get an ARX error when opening in LDD (2004). I know of the problems with the different release dates (LDD to LDD). Just poking around to see if there is another option that I am not seeing. We are trying to make the move to Carslon, but the draftsmen are slow in responding.

Thanks

Hmmm. Presumably you saving the Carlson files in the ACAD 2004 format? That would be the simple thing.?ÿ?ÿ

I'm guessing that the LDD point objects are being converted to a format "Carslon" likes, and LDD has no way to read what Carlson sends back.?ÿ

...the draftsmen are slow in responding

The draftsmen will never respond if allowed the option.?ÿ Incremental annual updates are one thing, but changes of platform are quite another. It will never happen until a) all the old staff are fired and replaced, en masse, or b) an ultimatum is issued and vigorously followed up.?ÿ Why, oh why, do people invest in new software and then fail to do what is necessary to deploy it effectively? Seen it several times, in several places Softdesk to LDD to Civil3d , and it's always the same.?ÿ

While I am not familiar with Carlson, I assume it runs on top of/within AutoCAD??ÿ If so, going from a Carlson 2015 version to a 15 year old piece of software probably won't be a smooth transition.?ÿ As Norman stated you need a plan for these things or you'll be fighting it the entire way.

Had the same problem trying to open new drawings from someone that had a new version of Civil3d. Ended up going to Carlson. So far it's opened everything.

The commands are the same, it's "where are they" on the Carlson menu that's the problem.

I should have clarified. Let's just say a client sends an ACAD dwg file to the office. If they export to 2004 format using LDD, it works sort of. But if the drawing is opened on another computer in our office using Carlson and just viewed (not saved), the errors come up when it is opened using LDD and it just makes it difficult to work with without tweaking here and there. And yes, the ultimatum is coming. But we are still installing Carlson on the rest of the computers one at a time. Thanks to all who responded.

Can you describe which CAD engine and version you're using to power the Carlson product? To my knowledge, the Carlson application does not make any direct/automatic DWG entity conversions. If you're using AutoCAD, Map or some newer version of Land Desktop, it's possible that Autodesk supplied object conversion tools are (for lack of a better term) upscaling the object definition signatures stored within the drawing database. Granted, not saving the DWG should keep the objects in their previous state but I always tend to approach those types of objects and Autodesk object logic code with a bit of trepidation.?ÿ
