Hi! I was wondering if anyone found a way to select some points in Civil 3d and then print out a list of them?

I just learned to select points that are in a point group list, copy to clipboard, open excel and paste. Then I can delete those portions I do not need.

Hi the easiest way I have found if you know what points they are is make a point group including only the points you want. then you can export those points by the group to a text file or csv file however you want

I just go to the LIST Points, highlight the ones I want and right click/ Export selected to a text file and print that.

If they aren't sequential, I'd make a point group.

Another option would be to create your point group, then navigate to the Toolbox tab of Toolspace. There you will find Reports Manager, with a Points subset. Within there you will find a few different options for creating a list.

Softdesk, LDD, LDT, C3d. None of them have made it easy to print coordinate lists. They just don't think it important. And after more than 25 years of using these platforms I've mostly given up trying. The advise you have received - to export a csv and open that in Excel - is what I do, also, on the rare occasion I need to make a printout.

Sometimes I'll create a "TEMP" point group (we already have the basics covered in our template for curb, gridlines, control, etc.) and I'll assign those random points to my TEMP point group and export them from there. Especially if it's a bunch of random points.

I've also noticed that C3d seems to grab points "faster" if a point group is used rather than highlighting the different points in a point list, doing a right-click and hitting select. In this case, the TEMP point group comes in real handy.

While I hardly ever print out coordinates these days, I understand the occasional need.

The easiest way to print a handful of points is to select them from 'Point's under the prospector>Rclick>export>find file and print it.

If you have a complex series of points to print you will need to create a point group first then follow Rclick on the point group.....

Point groups are the best for structured setups but there are certainly times when it's more useful to not create a point group

By far the easiest way to print less than a page full of points is to select the points under the prospector>Rclick>edit point>then use one of the many snippet type tools to screenshot exactly what you want to print then immediately print it.  This is what I use unless i have pages of points to print,(which simply doesn't happen these days)  I use screenshotcaptor as my snippet tool, it works great.

Or if you just need the data to look at outside of the data collector, take a picture of the points with your camera.  I do this sometimes if sending info to the crew quickly.

38 years using AutoCAD and today is the first day I have seen the "Toolbox" tab!

Like others, I rarely perform this function. It just dawned on me another way to accomplish this task. You can create a point table in C3D, then print from there. Go to the Annotate ribbon, Add Tables, Add Point Table. As usual, create a point group first. Using this table gives you more flexibility and is easier to modify than the reports that I cited previously. If it's something you will do often, create multiple table styles with different columns and headings for the desired task. Create the table, set up your desired way to print, and fire away.
