I'm not sure if I should have posted here or the surveying/geomatics forum but it is a software question so... anyone here have experience with recent Fieldgenius versions? They've always been glitchy on our Sokkia robots but especially the newer iX. I have 10.4 the latest and they aren't doing updates to Fieldgenius for Windows anymore (only for the android version). They left it with many issues so I'd like to try an older version and see if it helps. Running it on a Leica TCRP1203+ with a Parani sd1000 Bluetooth adapter. My biggest issue is if I lose lock and don't search immediately, it will disconnect and then freeze Fieldgenius and I have to close and relaunch the program and reconnect.?ÿ
Update: Microsurvey has been in contact and wants to sort out the issue. They do have a tps1200 robot they can test with.?ÿ
I'll be sending some settings files to hopefully figure this out. I'm hopeful that the Leica and FG will play better together than the Sokkia did. We always had good luck with field Genius on the old Leica conventional instruments. This is my first time with a Leica robot.?ÿ
This is why I plan to just get all of my gear from 1 brand.?ÿ Yeah, you can give bill gates the finger and run Linux on your machine, but you're probably going to be dogged by compatibility problems until the end of time.?ÿ At some point you have to decide if saving a few bucks on your hodge-podge of equipment is worth the hassle of problems like this.
What do the rest of you think?
I definitely think this is true to some extent. My only robotic experience has been with the Sokkia SRX with field genius (which was pretty slow and has some glitches - the worst being randomly changing prism constant) and the Sokkia ix which can barely shoot in the staking mode (half the time it displays "instrument communication" for 5-10 seconds before eventually failing and then losing lock temporarily, then regaining lock and letting me shoot again. Switching to magnet was much better, but if still occasionally would get a lock and then not display any results. That, the RC unit failing and motors failing twice is pushing us to sell it.?ÿ
It sounds like Leica is the better bet if you want to run third party software like Fieldgenius (or Carlson for that matter).?ÿ
