It crosses my mind that surveyors might want to include the recreation-grade GPS latitude and longitude in some pictures they exchange. They also might want to change the format from the usual JPEG to something like PNG or TIFF. Does anyone have a list of which formats support latitude/longitude and which don't? I'm referring to the metadata that most phone cameras include by default.
While JPG is not a good format for linework (like drawings), it is by far the best (and most popular) for photos. Conversion to PNG would create a much larger file.
I believe that .JPG and .TIF formats are the only ones that support GeoTags as EXIF data. I would suggest keeping your 'pictures' in .JPG format. Also note that even with only windows installed, you can right click and choose Properties to examine the GeoTag Lat/Long and altitude values.
Thanks.
