I need to buy Civil3d soon.?ÿ
Have any of you bought it as part of the AEC collection? If so, do you use any of the extra programs?

I work for a large construction firm and my Virtual Design and Construction group uses the AEC collection.?ÿ I mostly use Civil3d, Navisworks Manage, ?ÿReCap, and a little Revit.?ÿ The architects and coordinators in my group use Revit and Navis mostly and maybe a little 3DS Max .?ÿ On a side note, our whole company utilizes the Autodesk BIM 360 suite (not in the AEC Collection) but my group is the wizard behind the curtains for it.?ÿ
It depends on what kind of work you do.?ÿ If you're in a multidiscipline environment the collection might make sense.?ÿ If you're doing boundaries direct to the owner/purchaser or only with Civil Engineers in the predesign phase of development, C3D alone will be just fine.?ÿ
I'm mostly in the Civil-Site design mode for commercial projects where I prepare preliminary site plans and then do the final site, stormwater and grading plans.
Infraworks is part of the AEC collection. You might find usefulness there. We use it for preliminary site planning fairly frequently. Autodesk is actually trying to push designers there for all the initial design work then flip over to C3D for fine tuning and cutting sheets. Vehicle Tracking is another piece of the collection we use all the time. It has some slick tools for site planning as well, like dynamic parking isles. It or something like it is necessary anyway if any of your jurisdictions require a swept path analysis for the fire lanes or to prove turning radii for truck docks.
What we did was buy one subscription of the collection and basic C3D for each individual user.
I got an email that said InfraWorks and Civil 3D 2020 are included with my subscription, but I've never used it.?ÿ Maybe yours is too??ÿ I have Carlson Civil Suite and it's always been sufficient for my needs.?ÿ I have purchased the maintenance on Carlson and Autocad every year so far.?ÿ
Do you guys think it would be beneficial to download and use C3D along with Carlson??ÿ I'm a little leery about adding something and loose my Autocad seat.?ÿ I have heard that they have switched users out to the pay-by-the-year version.?ÿ I'm close to retirement and will probably drop the yearly maintenance at some point and just stick with the latest version to use part time in retirement.
