@ricklife You can simply print the raw data. It will give you an angle right and a distance. You can then use "point in direction" I believe it is called in survey pro cogo. Put in a good known point then use the point in direction function inputting manually your angle and distance and store as a different point. You can keep doing this for all the points you have raw data for. These resulting coords can be edited into each of the station set ups in the raw data. This will then change the coords?ÿ on any side shots you took from each of your set ups. You must correct every station setup coord that was wrong. Just correcting the 1st wrong one will not correct the ones that followed.
I want to emphasize that just changing the coords for the point you set up on will not change location of your station set up in the raw data. You will have to put in the corrected coords you created using point in direction, into the station set up field in the raw data for it to have the desired effect.
It seems like "the office" in this story has a shortage of ability to deal with raw data. But it also blows me away that a person could be 20 years in to a career in surveying and not be able to handle this problem.?ÿ Not that I haven't seen it before. It's all too common. Lots of failure going on in this story.?ÿ ?ÿ?ÿ
We've had a rash of hires in the past several years who were touted as "experienced surveyors" by HR and leadership. But as the old saying goes, do ya got 20 years of experience or one year of experience 20 times over?
Nine times out of ten, when I got them one-on-one to do some training or troubleshooting, I found it's the latter. Had a 10-year-veteran crew chief just recently who didn't understand that he had to calculate cuts and fills himself because the office had no idea what elevation his hub would end up at in the field and the design elevations were being provided by the contractor. Just...couldn't understand it. "I have to use my calculator?" Even if you haven't done construction staking in a while, it's not hard to figure out what has to happen to get the job done.
And on that note, I'd say that the inability to troubleshoot and problem-solve, or think outside the box, is at least as much of a problem as the lack of fundamental survey knowledge. I've known a few folks very early into their career who were able to come at a surveying problem from a non-surveying angle and solve it, even though they hadn't been taught the "right" way to do it.
Unfortunately for most of them, it was just as likely to get disciplined as to be rewarded for figuring something out on their own.
Also, what happens when a new guy who's gone through a trade school, union shop training program, or a surveying AAS or BS degree gets out in the field and is paired with a 10- or 20-year mentor who can't adjust a traverse or explain how the field software works?
In my experience it ends with everyone frustrated and resentful, very little progression for the person who was hoping to get a good start to their career, and a good chance that they will jump ship at the first opportunity.
@rover83 You need a new hire. ?ÿAs the words that I have come to despise in the last year and a half is Thats not the (standard ??company?) You have to do it this way only. ?ÿI say where is this written down where are the standards. Silence. ?ÿIf I go out to a job mind you no guidance and get the job done under budget I have to face the cad guy who sais well this is different why did you do this we never done this. I say surveyors all over the world have done this. And heaven forbid if I calc something on a piece of paper and use that to stake something. We use cad for that it can??t be done any other way. Here I have been working towards getting my out dated cad skills back up and now I cringe when I hear the words cad lol. I don??t mind getting cussed hollered at if I screw up. Please let me know by any means necessary. But if i do something different and solve the problem don??t tell me it??s wrong. You can say hey why didn??t you do it this way I will learn. But if its correct and just different way. Don??t say it??s wrong. ?ÿThinking outside the box is what surveyors have to do. There are many ways to accomplish the same thing. Different situations require different approaches. ?ÿSometimes when its 100 degrees and 90% humidity and a swarm of mosquitoes you just get er done.?ÿ
Give that guy on elevation calcs a linker rod. That will save him a little step and not have to calc rod readings he can simply set the elevation and subtract. ?ÿLol. Always great reading your post. ?ÿSorry for my rant. I ate to many blackberries today as i cut line through them.?ÿ
@dave-lindell lol I don??t know about that. I am full as a tick on a dog. ?ÿI just hope that a belly ache is all i get and not chiggers. ?ÿWas one of those jobs that was supposed to be a slam dunk. Looked so nice on google lol. ?ÿBut we will get er done.?ÿ
The Blackberries were so good going down though. My finger tips will be purple for weeks ?ÿ
?ÿ
When I started surveying in 1968, we only had two software choices...boxers or briefs ?????ÿ
@loyal Oh my. ?ÿI am a Boxer man. ?ÿWhen I went to MEPS for my first physical to join the service. Me being a Mississippi Boy when they told us to get out of our trousers I had neither on underneath. ?ÿSo they made me a diaper looking thing out of a towel. ?ÿDo you know what it does to a young boy to do the duck walk and such in a room full of other guys wearing a diaper. The dr. Had never met a true southern boy before and asked why. I said only time we put undergarments on is on Sunday and funerals because the dress pants don??t hold things in well. ?ÿ
@ricklife just a guess??if you started the job by entering an azimuth then the controller may be using that AND the imported coordinates and the conflict is causing the issue.
can you export an RW5?
Raw file isnt allowed to post. Any ides how to post the raw file? This is the 2nd traverse right next to first one. held the same two points for t&r, calc 62,63/field 402,403 on both traverses and both had about same error closure. Im posting the 2nd because im halfway through re running the 1st one now
These are my
?ÿexport options. And to add to my great weekend my collector died halfway through yesterday and I charge it all night but when I unplug it cuts off. Battery doesn't even show charging when plugged in. So im having to use the on board survey pro on my robot. My god fellas smh
Btw thanks for everyone's help. Sorry my lack of problem solving ability and out of the box thinking coupled with my fundamental lack of survey knowledge has landing me here on this forum to take from you guys weekend. So it's greatly appreciated
See if you can rename the *.rw5 file to *.txt and then try to upload here.
