Stephen I hadn't heard.?ÿ We've lost a good one.?ÿ
Here's a prayer Phil and his family.
I emailed him once with some GPS questions. Wrote back with lots of specific advice - lots of encouragement...I was blown away and very grateful he shared his knowledge with me.
Thankyou
Phil was a one of a kind.?ÿ I use to chat with him more when was on the coast than when he was here in OK.?ÿ When he returned we kept in contact a little more often.?ÿ Phil was quick of wit.?ÿ I liked to pick his brain for technical enlightenment but our chats always evolved to sharing jokes.
Phil was from the same part of Oklahoma as my mother, a place that is flat...really flat.?ÿ Phil told a story about when he was kid his dog ran off...and he watched him run for three days. ;)?ÿ
I had a dog like that once.?ÿ Arthritis and only three legs.
Then my dad got a job. ??? ??? ????ÿ
BTW, my nearest neighbor does have a three-legged dog that hops over our way most every day to tease our cats.
Sorry to hear about Phil.?ÿ He was very helpful to me back in the days of the Ashtech PM2.
Sorry to hear...
I went to a class he taught, a long time ago, on GPS...
Great guy!
Way back in the dark ages when I was with the highway dept. our GPS equipment was purchased by low bid.?ÿ One purchase would be Trimble and the next year Ashtech.?ÿ This was all static equipment of course and the software would come with each purchase.
After becoming familiar with both I tended to prefer Ashtech's mission planning and post-processing software, even when the times we were using Trimble receivers.?ÿ?ÿPhil loved this story. He was partial to Ashtech's software and he use to say, "I really like it. And not just because their name is on my paycheck."
BTW - there was a time when Ashtech's "help desk" was in the US and Trimble's was in New Zealand (I think) or some other spot halfway around the world.?ÿ I remember the time difference was a hurdle...ahh, the good old days.
Phil was an Area Director of OSLS when I was President. He always challenged me to do the best job I could. I ended up awarding him the "Surveyor of the Year" award which completely caught him off guard. I told him that I really knew little of his actual surveying skills but knew he was smart and said that if all surveyors went about their business in the same way Phil did that the surveying world would be a better place for it.?ÿ
R.I.P. Phil
