I'm posting this here in case anyone on the boards knew him. His service is this Sunday in Bridgton Maine.
Doug started surveying during the Vietnam war - he told me he even had the instrument shot at once. He always wore long sleeve shirts (because of sun poisoning in east Asia I think.
We were working on a hot day in Maine (around 85 degrees), so I took a long swig of water. Doug just shook his head in mock disgust. So, in mock anger, I yelled at him: "What Doug?!?! You don't like water?!?!?"
"I like water fine," he said,
"frozen and marinated in Scotch..."
R.I.P. Doug.
I really sorry to hear about your friend. I had a friend that was also a surveyor in Vietnam and from what I understood that was quite a dangerous job.
