This past week I attended?ÿthe NY UAS Symposium in Rome, NY, where I learned a few things. This is about 15 miles from my office.

Griffiss International Airport, a former Airforce base is one?ÿof just seven UAS test sites in the US. They have a two-mile run-way and in the process?ÿof creating a 40-60 mile corridor for UAS testing. This will likely be an area for testing things like:

Drone deliveries for Packages and food

Tethered drones -?ÿ have the possibility?ÿof flying commercially?ÿwithout any 107 rules.

UTM - UAS Traffic Managment

FAA considering ways to allow 107 pilots to fly over people via onboard parachutes and other requirements

FAA considering?ÿ107 pilots to fly beyond visual line of sight using remote tracking devices over multiple?ÿsingles and night flying

They had a live demonstration?ÿshowing how they can remotely take over, disable and control a UAS

Just today launched the completion of LAANC System?ÿ(Low Altitude Authorization & Notification Capability) brought online by FAA. This will allow Part 107 operators to request and grant waivers in just seconds rather than months.

Many, many more things to come.

Also, I learned a new phrase, at least new to me, "The Internet of Things" .

Ah, The Internet of Things...that's?ÿmore the distant future of drones than anything else you experienced? Day to day life will be weird with drones flying around head autonomously doing a variety of things. More robotic vehicles and droids on the ground doing other things. A small nanobot sensor flowing through an artery checking out the damage of a heart attack or even?ÿcleaning plaque buildup in one. All connected so they can communicate with humans and their piloted?ÿcraft. Straight outta a sci-fi...

And then back to reality...I'll have?ÿto look into Tethered Drones, haven't heard of those.
