Howdy,
Just wondering if anyone out there is using a Leica Pegasus Two or Trimble MX8 for doing utility data gathering?
I'm just wondering if it would be a good high speed solution to drive a road in order to determine utility pole placements and attachments/attachment heights.
Last time I had to do this we used a measuring wheel and a notepad 🙂
Thanks,
Tim
Just utility poles and wires? The MX8 would be overkill.
www.lidarusa.com talk to Jeff. All you need is the Snoopy (plus a laptop, plus some Point Cloud software) and it will be 1/4 the price of the MX8. If you want more, Jeff can provide it.
Do you work with clouds now? It is fairly nasty work until you know what you are doing.
If you want more drop a line

I would look at the MX2. It's about 1/3 the price of a MX8 or Pegasus 2. It would suit your needs better since it collects less data, which would be easier to process and manage. You can put it on almost any vehicle, and it's scalable to suit your needs (dual or single laser, cameras, etc.)
Any mobile solution would work well for what you're proposing.
