While reading another post the word "lagoon" was mentioned and I couldn't help but scoff at the ridiculousness of that word when used in the standard industry context. When people hear or think of lagoon I'm sure most think of something pristine and beautiful and populated by nubile young women (It's my dream dammit). However, industry uses these words as well and they do not mean what people think.
The lagoon as used in the previous thread was referring to a "hog lagoon" which is a nasty foul-smelling pit that is usually built next to a river and when the river floods this foul-smelling pit of excrement and toxic goo is swept away into waters that we fish and swim in and probably get our drinking water from.
Paper mills have "heavy liquor" ponds and while I am quite fond of good bourbon I cannot for the life of me figure out how a pond of toxic stew and sludge from a paper mill became associated with drinkable spirits.
I know there are others but at the moment they escape me but industry uses these words in an effort to confuse and alter perception, after all a lagoon is a beautiful wonder of nature to be admired.
Sewage Lagoon... Comes to mind.
Have been involved in the design of lagoons for animal waste and a few for human waste as an alternative to a septic tank and leach field. ?ÿBought a farm that had a lagoon that was once used in connection with a hog operation.
I would guess the "liquor" name comes from the degradation process that would be sorta similar to fermenting.

We have Mosquito Lagoon which I have fished in since 1964. My buddy and I would strap the fishing poles to our Honda 50 Super sports and follow a dirt road to Eldora. We fished (waded) for trout with top water plugs and caught dozens of trout which were all released. We considered Redfish as trash fish! Now you pay a fortune in a restaurant for "Blackened Redfish".?ÿ Imagine that?

Dude you have watched too many episodes of "Gilligan's Island".?ÿ ? ?ÿ
I saw the movie "Creature From the Black Lagoon" when I was a little kid, so "lagoon" doesn't conjure up idyllic scenes for me.
