A few years ago, I was in the little West Texas town of Fort Davis on the 4th of July. After dark, it looked as if half the citizens of the town had bought some major fireworks and were shooting them off from their backyards. I'd rented a house on the side of a hill and had a view of the starbursts all over town. It was great.

Hmmm............around here they wait until it is completely dark before the start the sky rockets, but I have to admit that the contrasts in the picture are pretty neat.

In Maine possession of fireworks is illegal unless you are a licensed professional, however, with "live free or die" New Hampshire next door where anything goes, Maine doesn't attempt to enforce the law.
Now that you think about it, the way they are used here on the beach with people throwing them at each other and firring rockets at each other it certainly can be argued that this is a Second Amendment issue.

Our little town had their fireworks display on friday, because everyone leaves town for the fourth. Crazy.

i live out in an unincorporated part of northwest Tarrant County where fireworks are legal unless a burn ban is in place.
fireworks work on a bell curve in this part of the world. they start off about a week before whatever the event is, built up to gaudy crescendo on the night of the event, and then taper off over the next week.
however, it is not unusual to hear fireworks or gunfire any time of the year. us rednecks aren't too picky about timing when it comes to making noise or blowing things up.
