We are...Marshall!

41 years ago today, Marshall University suffered the loss of 75 football players, coaches, school administrators and boosters in the worst sports tragedy in United States history. Among those lost were 5 of my fraternal brothers, 4 Delta Iota chapter members and 1 pledge: Ted Shoebridge, Jim Adams, Mike Blake, Pat Norrell and Bob Patterson. We will never forget.

The artsy figure must be fairly new... I like it.

I have posted on my Facebook how Southern Airways Flight 932 slammed into a hillside short of the Huntington airport... no one survived. On board was the traveling players and all of the coaches and many supporters of the Marshall University football team... Many lives lost... those of us that went to Marshall will never forget.

November 14, 1970...

I graduated high school with Ted Shoebridge. He was the best overall athlete I ever saw and a great kid.
We miss you Teddy and we always will.

sad memories.
Art Harris (#22)) was a childhood friend of mine. besides going on wild bike rides with each other, I played baseball with him and against him from play ground, pony league to Babe Ruth, legion and H.S. He was the best athlete I ever saw in baseball and was a cinch for a MLB career.. Think of Kirby Puckett type of player.
He was a great person as a friend. I went to grammar school with his girlfriend Maggie who was a sweet Irish girl.

Art's dad was also on the plane and died that day. I always liked Mr. Harris. He coached me in pony league baseball at 2nd ward park in Passaic.
Art wasn't on our team. As a very young kid, I asked him once why he was coaching our team and not Artie's team and he told me that my team was the better team. Sweet man.
Art was 5'10 and was stout with all muscle. His mother was a german war bride who his father met in Germany during WW2 while in service.

Not To Hijack

But it give Penn State's problems a different perspective. Penn State brought it on itself, Marshall did not.

Sorry for your loss.
