Has anyone been to the Cannstatter Volksfest?
I have a long weekend (and perhaps some brain cells) to kill in Germany this October between a trade show in Cologne that wraps up on a Thursday and a meeting the following Monday. An acquaintance with Trimble's photogrammetry subsidiary, inpho, suggested Stuggart for the last weekend of the festival and a visit to the Porsche museum if, as he put it in his email, “the blood alcohol level allows it”.
After looking at the promotional video I assume the Germans consume large amounts of beer to be able to endure what passes for music in their culture (I think this explains Hasselhoff) 😉

I need a good Volksfest like that....
Dear God, that looks as if the Stuttgartners have cornered the world kitsch market.

The video answers the age old question: What if Fellini was Teutonic?
A little ironic that the song they chose to honor a German folk fest is about Switzerland (Basel).
But hey, they have an excuse for the kitsch and bad music.
The art department wuz DRUNK.

I'm thinking that the more fundamental question is "How do they manage to manufacture anything in Stuttgart that actually works? Is it all Turkish gastarbeiteren?
