Lost power at my home on Monday about 11 PM. Still no power. And it was cold last night. I am hearing power should be restored at home by Monday!
Was called in to work for Wednesday to work damage assessment and take photos.
The destruction at Port Newark is enormous. The Admin building was under 3+ feet of water. We are on generator power and they got the computers up late last night.
Containers are blown down everywhere and there is flood debris everywhere and andything that could float did. Power linea nd communication lines are down.
Our sanitary pump stations are down. Fire pumps are down. The Port is officially closed until these items are resolved and power is back up.
The Coast Gurad closed the port and will not re-open the channels until hydro surveys are completed and we know there are no underwater obstructions such as containers in the channel.
Looks like 10 hour days until we can re-open!

Again!

happy to hear that you pulled through at home. Nothing is easy! Since you are living in former land fill country, I wonder where all this debris removal will end up.
That task will be massive.

who is doing the hydro?
I imagine that it is all the latest and greatest side scan or is there a new tech.

take care...

I don't think I'd want to be sitting at that bus stop when the train goes by.

Again!

Robert
Rogers is doing the hydro. They have had a contract for several years and do an outstanding job!
Much of the clean up has not veb begun as we are still in assessment stage.

Again!

FEMA steps in for the debris removal since it is all fed money spent. They will issues contracts and hire many site inspectors. The job is too big for the local$ to perform.
The question is "Where does it get piled?"
I would think that some part of the Pine Barrens will become a landfill

You were lucky you didn't have a real hurricane. The damage would have been a factor of 10 worse.

Sandy was big but not powerful. Andrew, that hit south Florida years ago, would have left much less that was repairable.

What a mess. Good luck to you all in the damage zone. I consider myself fortune that way out here on the other edge of the storm, my only damage was that the power went off and I've got a few small branches to pick up.
