Last night we went to a wine and beer "tasting" event at Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento. My wife's a Catholic middle school teacher and was given free tickets to it. They sold for $75 apiece. There were an estimated 2000 people there, two bands, about two dozen wineries serving several varieties at each one, about a dozen booths serving beer (full pours) and a whole bunch of restaurants serving little plates of food. It was all you could eat and drink once you got in. Kind of surprising they can get away with an event like that nowadays. Who knows how many people got their money's worth and got in their cars and drove home. I saw a lot of cabs and limos, but also the parking lots were so full they were parking people on the football field.

I took it easy but it could definitely have been a field day for cops pulling people over I would think. There were a few cops at the event but I didn't see any on the way back to the freeway.

Sounds like a great event.

Had someone held such a thing in Texas at any school, it would have been raided, those in charge would go to jail and the place closed or under government supervision and a file being opened for everyone attending and probably a fine for many or most everyone there.

Yup. Definitely not going to happen on school property anywhere near here. Heart of the Bible Belt and all that.

I learned yesterday that a guy I used to work with at a Sacramento firm years ago died in 2009, having flipped his car after imbibing. He was only 55. Sad stuff.

Drinking and driving just ain't worth it.

Why do you always invite two Baptists to go fishing with you?

To keep the first from drinking all your beer.

I cannot see the goodie two shoes drinking in public.

I was thinking the same thing A.Harris - the very idea of parking cars on a Texas High School football field might just even be a death sentence offense.
