The NCAA men soccer 1/4 finals begin today and this weekend.
All the 'playas' are there so far. 7 of 8 top seeds. Michigan a 10 seed snuck in with a win over South Carolina.
Personally, I would like to see a MD vs (Louisville or SMU) final.
Louisville, MD, Akron, Cal, UCLA, SMU, NC, Michigan

I request that you don't make this political. It is just news.

US lost the 2022 World Cup bid. Qatar won. OZ, Japan and South Korea were also losers.
Our presenters (Clinton, Morgan Freeman and Landon Donovan) came up short.

Russia got the 2018 bid over England and Spain.
It was going to be Euro based from the get-go.
Putin personally lobbied.
England suffered from 'negative reputation'. Too bad. Since they are hosting the Olympics. it would have followed up nicely
like Brazil is doing. Prince William made the appeal for the Brits.
There was talk that the 2022 would go to Asia.
But the US went hunting. and Obama did not do any personal lobbying except through video. I think he might have had Biden doing some schmoozing here and there. But Clinton was supposed to be the big guy for our presentation.
There was talk that political 'ramifications' hurt US. Wtf.
Qatar won the bid. Probably a lot of $$$$$$$$$$ given to FIFA above the table and probably a lot below the table also.
FIFA has been strong armed by the current director for too long now. As large as an institution that it is, the corruption is embedded.

I believe that for the 2018 bid the Russians implied that there was was too much public drunkeness in England. Somewhat ironic coming from the Russians.

Anyhow, bring 'em on. Already looking forward to 2014.

It would have been a great event to happen here I am positive of that for sports and all the money it would bring some cities, but that decision is good with me.

The World Cup crowd is too rowdy for them to invade my neighborhood and I am not that tame.

I am not sure if the new Dallas Cowboys stadium is big enough to hold them and there would be a need for several stadiums for it to be held.

Does any of our cities want those crazies turned loose after their team looses and full scale riots take place.

I think the new Cowboy stadium, Giants Stadium. RFK/DC, Foxboro, Soldier's Field and the Rose Bowl were touted as venues.
It would have been a good to have it here again.
Just to spike the interest of the sport was important to me.

Qater is building all new venues. They will be spending a $100 Billion or so.

The Brits wanted it bad in 2018 since there last WC win was when they hosted in 1966.

Yes and the hooliganism of some the English was used by Russia to gain some momentum.

I am thinking of the London Olympics in 2012 and maybe the WC in Rio in 2014.
Maybe I can talk my BIL into the Rio trip. He is fluent in Portuguese and has a lot of business contacts in Brazil.
