native monolith

Now that I've hooked you into reading this post I would like to point out where I found it.?ÿ On an obscure YouTube channel named "Natives React" and hosted by Patrick Willy.?ÿ Patrick is a young, accomplished Navajo Hoop Dancer and a talented Native humorist.

The "Natives React" videos are unique in that they incorporate the rare quality of being able to laugh at oneself.?ÿ I like to poke fun at Okies like myself and laugh about my upbringing.?ÿ I've heard it called self-deprecating.?ÿ I'm not sure if I agree with that assessment.?ÿ But there is humor in honesty, especially with cultural and societal situations.?ÿ "Natives React" is rare insight from a Native point of view.

The first episode I watched was a collection of Native remarks concerning the dude with the horn headdress and the war paint in the videos of the melee at the U.S. Capitol.?ÿ There is apparently a clip out there with him talking about his dress and Native Americans.?ÿ According to all the responses shown there is no tribal nation that will claim him.?ÿ It gets humorous.?ÿ

One recent episode covers Senator Bernie Sanders and the viral image of him huddled with mittens at the recent Presidential Inauguration.?ÿ Apparently some Natives have adopted Bernie as their uncle.?ÿ Lots of memes with him in his chair dropped into funny situations.?ÿ One has him wrapped in a blanket with the caption "Uncle Bernie at the pow-wow waiting for his elder's plate".?ÿ Great insight on Native humor and life in general.

Another episode covers "Indian cars".?ÿ They are similar to a lot of pics on the interweb covering some of the junk people drive to Walmart except with a definite Native spin.?ÿ

Patrick's videos can be slightly amateurish.?ÿ And since I'm not a Native some of the humor escapes me.?ÿ But they are a wonderful insight on Native life on the "rez" and in today's world.?ÿ They're not for everybody.?ÿ But if you are a fan of odd or off-beat humor I highly recommend giving it a try.

And in today's world where on wrong remark can brand someone as being insensitive or bigoted this humor is refreshing.?ÿ I've always believed it's ok to laugh at others' predicaments as long as you are willing to first laugh at your own.?ÿ

"as you are willing to first laugh at your own." And prepare yourself for verbal crucifiction from those that "missed the boat" so to speak. That's the fun part. ???? ?ÿ
