I think the guy who sent me the email with this particular story might be a Yankee. Or at least a Yankee fan from 55-60 years ago. When he was a youngster a fellow by the name of Mickey Mantle was playing baseball in his home town several years before the Yankees found Mickey.
As for me, I had one great-grandfather born in Ohio and one great-great grandfather born in New York who wore blue uniforms between 1861-1865. Had plenty of other ancestors living where some neighbors wore blue and some wore grey, but do not know for sure if they participated directly in the hostilities on either side. I have seen wills that date to the late 1700's and early 1800's that include slaves in the splitting of property, so I'm pretty sure what their allegiance would have been had they lived until 1861. Meanwhile, a few other ancestors were living in England and probably had no real interest either way.
Calling somebody a Yankee, is sort of like asking somebody if they still beat their wife. No, or Yes, and you are in trouble.
