Yesterday was spent as a judge for a high school debate competition. Met some outstanding young people in the process. The meet was held at one of the largest high schools in the entire state with most of the students coming from the other huge schools. Some of these kids will be ambassadors and captains of industry one day. Quick thinking and acting skills mixed in with self-assuredness and intellectual brilliance was evident in most of the students whose debates I judged.

The single topic for all debaters was: to pass a resolution to significantly increase Federal spending on transportation infrastructure. Most young people have never heard the word "infrastructure" let alone have an understanding of what qualifies a "transportation infrastructure".

One debate focused on greatly expanding high speed rail. Another focused on transitioning to wide consumer usage of hydrogen fuels for common transportation by developing a system of fueling stations nationwide. Another focused on stimulating private growth of facilitization for significant expansion of railroad systems for product shipment and military mobilization in emergencies to reduce highway transport.

All in all, it was a great experience.

It's always great to give back... 🙂

I use to judge jump rope competitions...I went through training and got up to World Class!! I have to admit I do NOT miss the 14 hour days of 100s of screaming kids inside the auditorium. :-O
