I been trying to get two older plotters working with Win 7, HP designjets 430 and a 650c. Up till now no success, but after trying different drivers, ports, etc. I read on the HP forum that it maybe the USB to parallel cable. I originally bought one from Office Depot, but today i tried one from Radio Shack and it worked!!! Merry Christmas to me!!!!!!!!!!!! and Merry Christmas to all of you!!!!!!!

I was wondering what that chorus of angels singing meant 🙂

And I felt the ripple in the force all at the same time.

my christmas miracle is...

I found another old Sokkia tribrach in our storage room out at Davis. I don't know how I missed that one before. It is in a bag with the rotating adapter and fixed prism target. That'll replace the cheapy tribrach that I can barely see through. I don't know how I missed it before because I scrounged around out there pretty extensively looking for equipment to use.

I took it back to the office and put it on the cylinder. It just needed a little adjustment on the plummet which is really easy on those Sokkia tribrachs because the capstans are right there in plain view, no covers to take off. I checked the level bubble and it is dead on.

Funny, had my own tribrach miracle today as well. My tried and true Leica was subjected to the tender ministrations of a scraper two days ago, totally trashed. I had an old optical plummet hockey puck, ancient Topcon that was in the bag with my Leica when it went to the shop for calibration. They cleaned and calibrated it as well, so I knew it was good to go back in April.

Anyhoo, was planning a trip to Mobile today to buy another tripod and tribrach, bummer, only game in town closed at noon. Come home, and remember I had a good tribrach on an old T-16 which had taken a bit of a spill about 15 years ago. Paired it up with the Topcon puck and I'm back in business.

FWIW, checked the tribrach against my 'bot, and the tribrach is as good as the one I use daily on the TCA 1103.

He could go on the view and then there could be a huge verbal war over topcon vs leica (wild) tribrachs.

Rule #1, never throw anything away, like I would toss a T-16, trashed or not.

I installed a "HP Oxford PCI Serial Parellel Adapter" yesterday in the back of my new computer yesterday. Popped in the card, installed a Windows VISTA 64-bit driver (couldn't find any for Windows 7), and sent a test page to my HP 430 without a hiccup. Truly was a Christmas miracle. Now I have LPT1 and COM1 for the older stuff!

I also installed AutoCad 2006 and Carlson 2009 on the Windows Home Premium and they worked! It checked for compatibility and I had to set them to run as administrator, but they fired right up!
