I've got a nice little get a way place up in NW AZ (Meadview for those who care) and don't have any DirecTV, Dish, cable or nothing. SWMBO likes at least some noise, and the radio ain't all that great. It's only 50 miles from home, so it's almost perfect.

Bought some Radio Shack rabbit ears for $20 or so. We get Antenna TV, along with all the PBS stuff you'd ever want to watch. I think around 6 to 10 total, depending on the weather and if you move around in the house.

I'm partial to Bewitched, I Dream of Jeanie, Green Acres, Gilligan, and sometimes other old shows. I'm not partial to certain ethnic sit com wannabe humor, including Three's Company, so I just turn it off and we look at real stars outside.

We got treated to a couple of good episodes of Leave It To Beaver yesterday. Beave sunk Wally's canoe and they tried to hide it from Walt & June. They got in trouble, but Walt was cool like a good dad we all know he is.

Then Beave & his buddie skipped school in the next one because a truck ran over their lunch and homework. They were starving, so they went to the market for "free food". Unbeknowingst to them it was advertising and was televised.

Wally was sick home too and just watching TV. Mom came in with lunch for him and saw the tv ad with Beave & his buddy that skipped school who were "speakers in the ad".

They just do not make that stuff any more. All in black & white too. I may get a better antenna, but don't really mind Jeanie, Eldora, and Mr Ziffle. Not to mention Ginger & MaryAnn.

The good old days.... 🙂

We have Direct TV - but also a good antenna & amplifier. Get between 20 & 30 stations through the antenna - depending upon the atmosphere.

You are right - many of these shows are truly refreshing.

We did without cable for at least three years with a Radio Shack semi directional antenna.
One of the nice things about over the air digital TV is that a single channel can have up to 4 channels on the same signal. We switched back to cable this past summer for a cable/internet/telephone very reasonable. We get 100s of channels but still miss a few of those over the air broadcast shows. Next summer I may hook up a second TV to the antenna even though our package includes 3 converter boxes two of which go unused.

With a directional or semi directional antenna your reception range will increase.

I am patiently waiting for the TV antennas to be activated on the new World Trade Center. We actually prefer some of the New York network stations over the corresponding Philadelphia ones. Prior to the required digital broadcast switch day we got 40 NYC signals. When the required day came they dropped their test power enough that only channel 7 gets to West Easton from the Empire State Building, but not always strong and clear. The extra WTC elevation should rectify that. With a good variety of feeds it will be worthwhile to hook up the antenna again.

Antenna technology is moving along pretty well these days. A $65 active antenna can pull in most anything within 75 miles. With cable going all digital my coax connection will be free again. We will probably run another set of wires and install a decent outdoor box.

I kinda like Dave's idea of both. I'll be getting Direct in the next week or so since I'm now back here, and will likely buy a better antenna. We love those old shows most of us watched as kids, and they just are not on any cable or satellite, or pay tv. Kinda sucks really, but it is what it is.

Green Acres is where I wanna be..... (ceppin' now it's in the desert that has more Joshua trees & cholla than grass) 😉

My wife and I moved into the FIL's old house. It was cabled for direct tv. We didn't want to pay for it. There was an old antenna mounted on the chimney. I ran coaxial cable from the antenna to the splitter. I had to get a 300 ohm to 74 ohm balun to make things work. WOW! We get Perry Mason, The Rifle Man, Wanted Dead Or Alive, Bonanza, and a PBS station called Create."® TV's instructional programs provide expert advice on cooking, arts & crafts, gardening, home improvement and travel. Tune in and be inspired to taste".

No one we know who pays for TV gets and of this programing.

I have DishTV

Got one of these, put on a 40ft mast and it picks up 18 channels.

WALT????

WALT??? I thought I’ve seen every single episode of Beaver including the pilot. When did June dump Ward and take up with Walt? 😉

I do get both. DirecTV has an OTA tuner that connects to the DVR which allows me to record those channels.:-)

Ya got me on that one. See, I'm getting old and the memory fades as eye glasses get thicker as the next stop is the hearing aid doc on the way to the pharmacy for blood pressure meds. At least my cholesterol, ticker, and prostate are ok, so far. Just keep as active as your body will let you IMHO.

Ward it is!! (Sorry June) They remind me of my ma & pa and the way my brothers & me were brought up. My parents were Russ & Lois, gramms & gramps were Floyd & Mabel. They don't name people that stuff anymore. Too bad really.
