The following link will take you to a very interesting article describing a common thread connecting the Queen of England, Alexandre Dumas (Three Musketeers), Carol Channing, a Catholic Pope and a list of others. It's something I didn't know.

According to Ancestry.com, another person to add to that list is President Obama's mother. Yes, his mother. They have traced her Dunham family roots back far enough to make the claim of a slave ancestor. Technically, I believe the term used at the time was indentured servant, but, of African descent nonetheless.

Of course, all this information comes from internet sources, so it must be perfectly accurate.

An indentured servant was not a slave. A slave was considered property in those cultures that practiced it. An indenture was a contract for a term of service, typically less than seven years. It was repayment for something such as passage across the ocean, and after that term the servant was a free person.

Ancestry.com is the one applying the term slave, not me. Check out their story on this. They have another story of where they have traced Michelle Obama's white ancestory.
