Facebook Privacy Controls

> If you are so paranoid you are afraid you might catch a germ from talking to someone you know, or heaven forbid a stranger, then you might as well be like Howard Hughes and go lock yourself up in a hermetically controlled room.
>

That doesn't sound like you have "much respect for the opinions" of others.

Anyway, when I talk of the Facebook algorithms, I am not talking about opinion.. The data mining and personal computer infiltration they are doing is verifiable fact, and not only are they data mining galore, they are also TRACKING your behavior as it relates to your computer use! and you have absolutely no control over that process. Did you get that? Your entire daily computer use, not just while you are logged into the site.

The privacy controls offerd to the end user by Facebook only allow the end user to mask information from other users, those privacy controls are pretty basic and offered by almost all websites and those websites' software (remember, they were forced by filed suit to default to a more private mode, as the controls were hidden and were not used by most early users) Mark Zuckerberg even called his Facebook users "Dumb-F%cks" for trusting him with their information!. There goes your privacy right there. Are you going to trust someone like that?

If something like that makes you feel secure, by all means GO FOR IT. It is easy to keep other users from accessing your page or from gleaning information you agreed to provide the website, but that is not really the issue I brought up now is it.

Do any of the malware tools identify and block this Facebook tracking of your computer use?

Edit: This article suggests that they can't track everything you do, and doesn't mention snooping for other contents of your hard disk, but does say their tracking cookies do share information with and collect information from other sites that participate.

And this page mostly agrees with that:

Where there is smoke, there is fire.

The University of Texas' M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (where my wife is an Associate Director) in the Development Office DOES NOT ALLOW FACEBOOK TO BE ACCESSED ON ITS COMPUTERS, not because of its social media format, but because of its DATA MINING ALGORITHMS. The Development Office generates millions of line of personal information as part of its cultivation process to profile donors, and potential donors and they have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Facecrook infiltrates their employees' hard drives for information.

Facebook Privacy Controls

Adam,

I went to the Disconnect.me website. The button to install the program appears to be greyed out, ie, not available? I was not able to figure out how to install it. Any suggestions?

Facebook Paranoid? how about google paranoid.....

Skynet is self aware- if your on the net- you're known.

In a similar vein - I think it was Peter Benchley that discussed in an inteview about sharks..... once you're in the water, everything knows you're there....." my paraphrase.:-|
