The average number of posts to a thread is in the 10 to 11 range. This has been rather consistent over the life of this forum. Sure, some are only a single post while others may garner 50 or more replies. On "that other board" from our deep, dark, distant past it seems that the record thread was somewhere around 200 posts.
My question focuses on the rate of decay of responses.
Clearly the answer for any given thread will vary compared to others. But there must be a statistical model that might apply to those threads of 15 or more posts, for example. Do 95 percent of all posts come within 36 hours of the initial post? Or is it more like 18 hours?
How frequently do people ever add a comment to a thread that has been out there for three days, seven days, one month, six months?
We all know Wendell is far too busy with doing what he has to do. Perhaps there is a budding Einstein out there who could massage the Beerleg/Surveyorconnect data to identify this fascinating and life-changing data.
