There are things I like about the TSC7, and things I don't like about it, but in general it's doing what I need it to do. One of the things about it that's new for me is the voice feedback. I mostly find it helpful, and only occasionally find it annoying.
One voice response always gives me a chuckle: when I'm driving between stations (usually for 15 minutes to half an hour) I stick the receiver behind the seat, which invariably causes it to lose initialization. But often as I'm tooling along it'll pick up enough SVs to initialize, which is usually followed by the announcement, "Poor PDOP." That invariably elicits this response from me: "Poor PDOP, I feel so bad for PDOP."
I find she gets a bit much after a while and I turn her off.
But I do like having the vibration on to confirm when a point is stored - very handy when you cant easily see the screen.
"Cant easily see the screen"??? do we still have this problem with the expensive TSC7?
Only when I'm working with the pole up above head, or buried in the bushes, or I'm busy watching traffic...
We replaced the “Observation Stored” with a louder and shorter “BEEP”
But in noisy conditions we also use the vibration.
We replaced the “Observation Stored”...
Just a friendly warning if you say lobster bacon store after the computer lady speaks you'll probably be saying it for the rest of your surveying life.
lol see the screen. That’s my problem. If I have my glasses on I can see it but then I trip and fall as I can’t see to walk. Most definitely like the vibration.
I prefer "I'm so f***ing bored" instead.
Have a good friend that many years ago he at some point was going to name one of his English Bulldogs PDOP. lol.
Before Trimble Access on the old TSCe Survey controller software when I was doing a lot of support I received a call once from an owner of the company. He was a great guy. Anyway he had a request for me to load some wave files in place of the generic voice and beeps sounds for a few functions for his crews. We placed the “Dope” from Bart Simpson when they pushed or tried to record a bad shot with rtk and he had a few others. We added in. I did that as a freebie and for a few days it was not worth it as I was getting more calls that something was wrong with the data collector lol. But it was humorous. One of the guys I knew very smart guy. I wish I had have the knowledge he had. They were using email on those old TSCe and so they had you got mail and a gunny Ernie mail call so crews would have an idea when email from officials through. I imagine you can still do all of these things today. So I would say have fun and survey on. What’s a new wave file going to hurt in the big picture.
